Budapest’s second modern stadium will open its doors on October 13. The timing isn’t perfect, but construction is delivered within the desired timeline.

György Görözdi, MTK Budapest’s director for investment, confirmed the official opening date for new Nandor Hidegkuti Stadium. As a result of league and UEFA calendars the inauguration is scheduled for October 13. That’s a non-matchday, just two days before MTK face leading side Vasas in away derby clash.
MTK will host the first league game at the new ground on October 22, against Gyirmót. This means almost two years of exile from their spiritual home, though the construction itself was extremely fast.
While demolition of the old Nandor Hidegkuti Stadium was launched in January 2015, the site wasn’t cleared until late summer (building permit issued on May 22). First cranes were mounted on the site as late as January 2016 and since then it’s been a very speedy construction process. As of now the stadium has almost all seats (over 5,000), the entire roof, floodlighting and giant screens, not mentioning the fresh field.
As soon as MTK present current progress photos, we will also share them with you. Until then here are the final renderings of what will be viewed from October onwards. Even if slightly photoshopped, these are very accurate.
