After weeks of preparations yesterday morning saw the operation of lifting the roof piece that fell onto the stadium in late November. It ended well into the afternoon, but resulted in flawless removal of the huge steel truss from the structure it fell onto.
The damaged roof segment now rests next to the stadium. New one will replace it in the structure, while repair works are expected to last until April.
The stadium is regarded as safe in terms of progress and deadlines by FIFA. April delivery is the most delayed in recent history of any FIFA tournament, but still gives enough time to run test events before the stadium hosts opening game of the 2014 World Cup in June.
