FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke visited Natal this week to meet with local organizing committee. During press conference he announced FIFA will provide constant monitoring of the construction site to be sure everything is ready on time.
According to Valcke the ground already has delays, though it’s still 1,5 year before planned completion. This was quickly refused by local organizers. Demétrio Torres of Secopa claims works are along schedule and some done in 2011 were even ahead of expected timeframe.
Current deadline for completion of Arena das Dunas is set at December 2013, the last moment accepted by FIFA. This means Natal cannot get behind schedule if the arena is to host 2014 World Cup games.
