Mes Rafsanjan Stadium – stadium description

How was the new stadium in Rafsanjan built?

In 2009, construction of a new sports complex began on the south-eastern outskirts of Rafsanjan, which was to include a multi-purpose stadium for 10,000 spectators. The complex also was to include a secondary football stadium, training pitches, a sports hall as well as a swimming pool. Construction of the main stadium began in 2011.

Work progressed at a relatively slow pace. In 2016, the auxiliary football stadium, which received stands for 2,000 spectators, was ready. It became the temporary home of Mes Rafsanjan FC, until the main stadium was opened. In 2020 Mes Rafsanjan FC was promoted to the highest division, and in the summer of 2022 the stands of the modest football stadium were expanded to a capacity of 3,800 spectators.

The main stadium was not ready until 2023, and was inaugurated with a league match played on November 3, 2023, in which Mes Rafsanjan FC defeated Foolad FC 3–0. The facility was built on the initiative of the National Iranian Copper Industries Company, which owns Mes Rafsanjan FC.

What are the characteristics of Mes Rafsanjan Stadium?

The stadium has a multi-purpose character. The running track is surrounded by a low ring of stands, separated from it by a moat. Only in the western section, the main stand, has a second tier and is significantly higher. The upper tier of the main stand has been given a canopy, supported by internal columns.

The auditorium is equipped with plastic seats and the total capacity of the stadium is 10,000 spectators. A video screen has been placed behind the north curve of the stands, and four floodlight masts have been erected in the corners.

The facility is part of a sports complex located on the south-eastern outskirts of Rafsanjan. The surrounding area includes a modest football stadium as well as training pitches.
