Italy: We know date of Atalanta's first match at renovated stadium! At the end of April 2019, a major renovation of Gewiss Stadium began, with the main goal of removing the curves behind the goals and replacing them with new, larger, and more modern stands. The project is now in its final stages, with the contractor having over 60 days to complete all the necessary work to open the stadium.

New lighting

On July 6, a special beam, called americana, was installed on the ends of the Curva Nord and Sud stands, which will serve as the new lighting system. An identical one will be installed on the opposite side above the central stand once the new sector of Gewiss Stadium is completed.

At 5:50 PM, the anchoring is complete, and that's great news: we now have two months left to complete the Morosini stand, install the second beam, and open the new underground parking, Atalanta's COO, Roberto Spagnolo, announced via Instagram.

Two weeks later than planned?

Atalanta, which will play three away matches against Lecce, Juventus, and Inter at the beginning of the season, will debut in Bergamo only in mid-September against Fiorentina. Initial forecasts indicated that the team could return to their venue at the end of August, but minor delays during the project have shifted this date to the weekend of September 16-17.

The target total capacity of the stadium will be 24,000 seats, with 18,000 in the southern and northern stands. The new sector for visiting team fans will accommodate 1,500 people.
