Italy: Lazio unveils project for redevelopment of Stadio Flaminio. 50,000-seat venue? During a recent meeting, Lazio President Claudio Lotito, accompanied by his team of designers and lawyers, presented the preliminary plan for the redevelopment of the Flaminio Stadium to the Mayor of Rome. The meeting was also attended by the Councilor for Major Events, Sports, Tourism, and Fashion, Alessandro Onorato, and the Councilor for Heritage, Tobia Zevi.

Positive and constructive meeting

The designers presented a project that takes into account four main principles: Nervi's architecture, sports usability, the stadium's role as a meeting center, and respect for the environment. The plans aim to increase the capacity of Stadio Flaminio to around 50,000 seats while preserving the requirements of the historic site. Next to the stadium, a structure protecting the existing Nervi architecture is planned. The total cost of the investment is at least €250 million.

The meeting went well, and I think the city administration understood the seriousness of the project and the importance of safeguarding the regulatory and architectural aspects, commented Lotito. Of course, we are still in the early stages of discussions. A detailed feasibility study along with a refined preliminary project needs to be presented. However, this first meeting was definitely positive and constructive. We showcased the hard work put into finding a solution that respects Nervi's original stadium design.

Flaminio as an opportunity for a new stadium for Lazio

In the last two weeks, two additional projects have been presented: one by Credito Sportivo and another by Roma Nuoto. Now, the ball is in the court of the Rome authorities, who must evaluate the feasibility of the presented projects and decide which one will be implemented. Claudio Lotito does not hide that he favors the realization of the vision created by the club's designers, as his goal is to bring Lazio back to Stadio Flaminio.

Lazio's project envisions a venue open to the city and respectful of its surrounding environment. The aim is to make Flaminio a reference point for the entire area, usable 365 days a year, not just on match days. Lotito emphasized that technical aspects will be finalized by October.
