A match for greatness

The match between Ruch and Widzew can be described in just this word - great. It came through in the previews of the match, in the posts of supporters, and you could just feel it. A great Friendship match in a great stadium with a great attendance - the highest in the 21st century in Poland. The fans lived up to expectations - 50,000 of them turned up in the stands of Stadion Śląski! The day of April 20, 2024, thus goes down in Ekstraklasa history and relegates to second place the date of March 19, 2016, when 41 567 people came to the stands of the stadium in Poznań to watch the match against Legia Warsaw.

The uniqueness of today's event was realised by the Blue's captain, Tomasz Foszmańczyk. For most, this will be the only opportunity. After all, hardly anyone in the Ekstraklasa has the opportunity to play in such a match. Of course, it would be great if we played at Cicha, but Stadion Śląski gives us such an opportunity that our fans can show their best side. The record will be hard to beat in the future, said the Ruch captain.

The fans who gathered in the stands also felt the uniqueness of the event, with many emphasising that they had never seen such an atmosphere at a match between Polish teams before. Although more and more people are coming to football matches in Central Europe, some prefer online entertainment such as mobile phone casino no deposit bonus, where among other things they find a comprehensive list of bonuses you can choose from.

Friendly record

Around 20,000 Widzew Łódź fans came to the Friendship Match organised at Stadion Śląski! That is more people than Widzew Stadium can accommodate. Where did the agreement between the club from the centre of Poland and the Blues come from? The beginnings of the friendship between fans of Widzew Łódź and Ruch Chorzów date back to mid-1978. This alliance was born during a match of a direct clash between these teams. After the rivalry ended, the Chorzów team managed to stay in the top division at the time.

The following year, during the meeting in Chorzów, Widzew turned up in numbers of 300-400 fans. The atmosphere during the cheering was free of insults and fans of both teams were able to interact directly. In the early 1980s, ties between Lodz and Chorzow began to intensify. A key moment was the last meeting of the 1981/82 season, where a draw at the Chorzów stadium ensured Ruch remained in the Ekstraklasa, while Widzew won the Polish championship. The joy in the stadium was immense and the fans of both teams celebrated together, marking the beginning of a fruitful period of friendship between the two cities.

However, it did not last long. On March 29, 1986, the agreement came to an end, after which, for the following years, the fans of the two clubs came together on very few occasions. The breakthrough came at the beginning of the 21st century, when a deal was born between the fans concerning initially Polish national team matches. The gradual warming of relations reached its climax on April 16, 2005, when, during a meeting between Ruch and Widzew, the public came together. Thanks to a friendship that has continued ever since, we saw record attendances at the Silesian Stadium.
