What has changed since then?

In December, the aforementioned entities established a special-purpose commercial company called La Nueva Romareda SL. This entity will be responsible for the construction, management, and operation of the new stadium, with an initial capital of €50.5 million. In the first phase, the City Council will contribute the right to the land equivalent to €24.5 million. The Aragon government will contribute €20 million, and Real Zaragoza will invest €6 million. By the end of 2028, the three entities will each contribute €40 million. The remaining contributions will depend on the final cost, project needs, and the possibility of new partners joining. The signatories' idea is to finance 50% of the work.

The entities of the La Nueva Romareda SL company will distribute 240,000 shares equally among themselves. In this way, the City Council of Zaragoza will have 80,002 shares (33.34%); the Aragon government 79,999 shares (33.33%); and the Zaragoza club the remaining 79,999 shares (33.33%).

Will Enrique Bunbury bid farewell to old facility?

The estimated cost of the investment is around €140 million, and construction is scheduled to begin in mid-July of this year. On July 6, decidedly the most internationally renowned star of Spanish rock, Enrique Bunbury, will perform at La Romareda. After this event, heavy machinery will enter the facility to start demolishing the Real Zaragoza stadium, built in 1957. Details of the project are not yet known. In mid-May of last year, the club presented renderings of the new Estadio La Romareda, developed by the Spanish design studio IDOM. However, it is unclear to what extent the company intends to bring it to life.

Chance to host World Cup?

The agreement signed by the company will be transferred to the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) so that the new La Romareda can apply to host the 2030 World Cup. RFEF leaders have told us that if a new stadium is built, Zaragoza will receive the green light and support in their bid to host the World Cup, - said Aragon's president, Jorge Azcón.

The revamped La Romareda stadium will undoubtedly be another gem on Spain's map, and the federation will undoubtedly face a significant challenge in creating the final list of proposed venues for the 2030 World Cup.
