England: Everton Stadium with a nod to the past - more than 400 monuments preserved Work on the Bramley-Moore Dock site has been ongoing for more than two years. The outline of the new stadium for Everton is already becoming more and more visible, and in addition to the club's main facility itself, some workmen are focusing on the surrounding area. It includes historic elements that are to be preserved.

Historic tower and other elements of former dock restored to life

Everton Stadium is not the only structure being dealt with by the team at the construction site. The historic hydraulic tower and engine house, located near the still unfinished arena, is also being addressed by the builders. Over the past two years, meticulous work has been carried out to restore the 1883 listed building to its former glory.

Currently, the restoration of the existing walls of the historic structure, the re-filling of joints and the installation of new windows and doors in line with the original design are nearing completion. This will be followed by the next phase of internal works to breathe new life into the building.

Thanks to a £15m grant from the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, historic maritime features such as railway lines, mooring bollards and cobbles - characteristic of the docks' glorious days when Liverpool's ports dominated world trade - have been marked and carefully restored. In total, more than 400 historic items have been preserved and additional items will be used as exhibition pieces or donated to Liverpool City Council.

Everton Stadium is taking shape

It is estimated that the whole project will cost up to £500m. However, the benefits are already becoming clear, with Everton Stadium having been selected as the host venue for Euro 2028. The arena is to be distinguished by a single-tier stand that will be able to accommodate 13,000 Toffees fans. The idea for this structure is based on Borussia Dortmund's famous 'Yellow Wall' stand, which holds up to 25,000 fans.

Giant loudspeakers have also been raised as part of a huge system in all four corners of the venue. Fans are delighted with the construction progress they are seeing on the club's social media, with one supporter writing: Spurs stadium is amazing but this one is off the scale. A true work of genius.
