Preparations for the big match complete

Estadio Olímpico Lluís Companys underwent significant preparations in anticipation of the Joan Gamper Trophy match against Tottenham. FC Barcelona worked diligently to get the stadium in the best possible condition, especially as it will serve as their temporary home until November 2024 due to ongoing renovations at the Spotify Camp Nou.

Although there have been challenges in coordinating the stadium's schedule of events with the renovation work, only minor adjustments remain and will be completed after the match. Fans can expect the stadium to host its first La Liga match on August 20 against Cádiz.

Stadium upgrade enhances fan experience

As part of the Espai Barça project, several areas of the stadium have been transformed. These include the hospitality rooms, press stands, changing rooms and the pitch. The drainage, irrigation and water treatment systems were upgraded and a new water tank was installed. In addition, the competition broadcast and television systems were upgraded to meet the requirements of La Liga and international competitions.

Other significant improvements include state-of-the-art lighting, telecommunications networks, commentator sectors, VIP seating and the implementation of advanced systems such as VAR and tracking cameras. By making these improvements, FC Barcelona aims to provide fans with a matchday experience comparable to that at other venues, while ensuring that the stadium meets the highest standards accepted in European football.

FC Barcelona has worked with Barcelona City Council on a joint mobility plan for those travelling to Montjuïc on match days. It is advisable to hit the road in advance, as access by private vehicles will be restricted three hours before kick-off. Only four-wheeled vehicles with accreditation will be allowed to enter the area around the Olympic stadium. The Municipal Police will remove vehicles parked in unauthorised areas. For motorbikes, a maximum of 3,500 unicycles will be allowed to enter and park near the stadium.
