Italy: Champions League final in Milan? In the last UEFA Champions League final match in Istanbul, Manchester City and Inter Milan met. Will the most important match of the year be held at the home of Internazionale in the coming years? The Italians have made such a bid and the competition is not strong.

Milan as the favourite

San Siro is one of the stadiums that could host the UEFA Champions League final in 2026 or 2027 after declaring an interest. As UEFA itself has confirmed, the home venue of AC Milan and Inter could see another Champions League final in the near future. The last one in Lombardy was the final match between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid in 2016.

Nine member associations have also declared an interest in hosting the UEFA club finals in 2026 and 2027. However, these are not binding and final proposals. Any proposals must be submitted to UEFA by February 21, 2024. The Italians have expressed an interest in the Champions League final, with the only rival at the moment being the Puskas Arena in Budapest.

Where could other European cup finals be held?

Germany, Norway and Scotland have expressed an interest in the Women's Champions League final, while Germany and Romania have also expressed an interest in the Europa League final. The choice of the San Siro, on the other hand, is a sign that the entire football world in Italy does not assume that the Giuseppe Meazza will cease to exist anytime soon and will be operational in a few years' time.

One of the most recognisable stadiums in the world is still expected to play host to two of Milan's biggest clubs, and in the longer term, the venue is surely to be home to Inter, who would perhaps share Giuseppe Meazza with Monza. AC Milan's future, however, is likely to be different. Representatives of the parties have already analysed the exact location of a new stadium for the Rossoneri, and contacts between the club and the municipality are being maintained and will continue in the coming weeks. San Donato is an area valued above all for its location - the club wants to build a new arena by 2028, 2029 at the latest.
