Wales: Wrexham's promotion to League Two lands Racecourse Ground naming rights Wrexham’s historic Racecourse Ground has landed its first-ever naming-rights sponsor, a few weeks after the team’s promotion to League Two.

It might be the oldest stadium in the world to have hosted an international game (in 1877), but it has always been known as Racecourse Ground. Instead, the stadium will be known as the STōK Cae Ras (Welsh) or STōK Racecourse (English) from the July 1, 2023, keeping its original name with the new sponsor.

STōK is a US-based cold brew coffee brand; here’s what they had to say about the partnership:

We were captivated by the story of Wrexham – the team, the fans, and the community – and we’re honoured to be welcomed into the Wrexham family. We’ll be cheering on the Red Dragons and raising our cold brews from afar. (Source: Wrexham lands first naming-rights sponsor for Racecourse Ground - The Stadium Business)

In a light-hearted clip posted by Ryan Reynolds, one of Wrexham’s co-chairmen, we see the team’s less-than-positive reaction to the sponsorship deal that replaces the UK’s beloved tea with cold brew coffee.

That’s not all: Reynolds’ wife, Blake Lively, is also getting involved with the sponsorship action. Her drinks brand Betty Buzz was recently announced as the sponsor of Wrexham’s new training kit for the upcoming season. Lively is a frequent attendee of Wrexham’s games along with her husband – the two have caused the world’s third-oldest professional football team to gain quite the global following in recent years. So much so that the team – and Reynolds’ takeover of it – have even been the subject of a documentary on Disney+; Welcome to Wrexham.

These two new sponsors aren’t the only exciting upcoming changes for the Welsh team – the stadium is also getting a new stand constructed in time for the 2024/5 season. The 5000-seat stand will raise the stadium’s capacity to 15,000 in total.

Following the team’s victory this season, Reynolds and his other co-chairman Rob McElhenney treated the players to a trip to Las Vegas. There’s yet more excitement to come for the team – with an upcoming tour of the US over the summer in which they’ll face off against massive teams including LA Galaxy II.

All of this hype and the upcoming expansion of the stadium are sure to lead to an even greater following for the club. And, depending on how they perform against LA Galaxy II and other major clubs during their summer tour, perhaps they’ll become even more popular among fans looking to place a bet on a game.

The coming years are set to be big for Wrexham; who knows what other exciting changes McElhenney and Reynolds have in store for The Red Dragons.
