Our Stadium of the Year competition has officially begun and will run until March 15. As many as 36 venues are on the list of nominees this year. One of them is Wuyi New District Sports Center Stadium located in Nanping, China. Wuyi New District Sports Center Stadium nominated for Stadium of the Year 2022!

Residents of China are proud of their new venue. The ultra-modern Wuyi New District Sports Center Stadium made it to the list of 36 football arenas nominated for the prestigious Stadium of the Year 2022 award. The competition is the largest public vote of its kind in the world. Since the first edition began, a total of more than 400,000 valid votes have been counted.

This year’s contest is highly varied, with stadiums from as many as six different continents taking part: 18 venues are from Asia, 8 from Europe, 4 from Africa, 3 from North America, 2 from South America and 1 from Australia and Oceania. Get to know Wuyi New District Sports Center Stadium 

In 2017, the authorities of the city of Nanping successfully bid to host the 17th Fujian Provincial Games, to be held in 2022. The main facilities for the competition were decided to be built in Wuyi New District, a new settlement unit near Jianyang area. The new sports complex, consisting mainly of a stadium and a sports hall connected to a swimming pool, was built between the older Jianyang district and the new Wuyi New District. Its construction began in 2018 and it passed all inspection procedures in April 2022. 

On November 27, 2022, the stadium hosted the opening ceremony of the main part of the Fujian Provincial Games. During the main part of the event, the stadium hosted the athletics competition. Here are some interesting facts about the arena: 

• The entire investment cost 1.75 billion yuan. 
• The stadium is equipped with an athletics track and can accommodate 25,000 spectators. 
• The stands are divided into two tiers, with the main stand located on the west side.
• The whole exterior is meant to evoke the camellia flower, reflected in the form of origami.
• The facility has an interesting variety in the form of a semi-open corridor under the lower tier of stands, through which an additional four-track raceway runs.

How to vote for the Stadium of the Year 2022?

In order to take part, everyone has to select five stadiums by giving 5 stars to the best one, 4 stars to the second best, 3 stars to the third, 2 stars for the fourth and finally 1 star for the fifth most interesting. It means that you cannot cast your vote for only one stadium - all 5 venues must be included in your form.
