GEODIS Park nominated for Stadium of the Year 2022!

Soccer fans in Nashville last year finally got what they deserve. A new soccer-specific venue that became home to their beloved MLS club Nashville SC. The ultra-modern GEODIS Park made it to the list of 36 football arenas nominated for the prestigious Stadium of the Year 2022 award. The competition is the largest public vote of its kind in the world. Since the first edition began, a total of more than 400,000 valid votes have been counted.

This year’s contest is highly varied, with stadiums from as many as five different continents taking part: 18 venues are from Asia, eight from Europe, four from Africa, three from North America, two from South America and one from Australia and Oceania. Get to know GEODIS Park

In 2020 Nashville SC joined the MLS. Since the construction of their new stadium had just begun the same year, the club played its first two seasons at Nissan Stadium, which is the everyday home of the NFL team, the Tennessee Titans. With a new stadium scheduled to open in the spring of 2022, Nashville SC played its first games of the last season entirely away. The inauguration of the GEODIS Park took place on May 1 and on opening day, with a sold-out crowd of 30,000 fans, the hosts tied in a league game against Philadelphia Union 1-1. Make sure to check out our YouTube channel to see how GEODIS Park compares to the other MLS arenas:

The final design of the stadium was prepared by renowned studio Populous together with HASTINGS Architecture. The arena is part of the fairgrounds redevelopment project, which also includes a relocated Expo event space, new mixed-use commercial and residential buildings and an upgraded Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway capable of hosting NASCAR races. Here are some interesting facts about the arena: 

  • GEODIS Park cost $ 335 million.
  • It is the largest soccer-specific stadium in the United States and Canada
  • Before the first game, the club sold more than 20,000 season passes
  • On the western stand the seating form the sign "NASHVILLE SC"
  • The stadium offers parking space for “just” 5,000 cars 

The stadium has a typical soccer layout, with the stands located just behind the end lines of the field. The auditorium is two-tiered. The first level of the stands is based on the slopes around the pitch (the field is located in a small basin below the level of the surrounding ground), the construction of the upper level is based on a steel framework, which is covered with concrete steps. The steel structure is mostly bare and its construction is clearly visible from the outside. Additional buildings with restaurants, stores, and restrooms were constructed around the stadium. 

How to vote for the Stadium of the Year 2022?

In order to take part, everyone has to select five stadiums by giving 5 stars to the best one, 4 stars to the second best, 3 stars to the third, 2 stars for the fourth and finally 1 star for the fifth most interesting. It means that you cannot cast your vote for only one stadium - all 5 venues must be included in your form.
