Germany: Böllenfalltor revamp more expensive Only one contractor submitted a bid to redevelop SV Darmstadt's stadium and construction prices are rising across Germany. These two factors resulted in over 40% increase of the stadium revamp's budget.

The biggest ever reconstruction of Böllenfalltor is beginning. However, the operation has seen some changes, both in scheduling and, more importantly, in cost. The budget has already grown by over 40% already, from €28.5 million to €40.5 million.

Main cause behind the sudden rise is that only one company was interested in the international tender launched for reconstruction. The German construction market is quite busy and construction cost is growing.

The first phase alone, including demolition of the landfill east stand, will cost €19.3 million instead of estimated 14 million. Erection of the new east stand will in turn require €21.2 million.

Instead of mid-2018, demolition of the old east stand (opposite straight) will begin during the winter break and its successor should be ready by the end of 2019.

Along with thorough upgrade of the main stand and surroundings, the stadium should meet all Bundesliga requirements, even if still being one of the smallest. When all works conclude ahead of the 2021/22 season, Böllenfalltor will still hold fewer than 19,000 people.
