London: Upton Park (almost) gone, here’s what’s next Barratt Homes will soon finish the demolition of Upton Park stadium, former home to thousands of West Ham supporters. Its replacement will feature 842 flats.

Many Hammers fans are probably heartbroken with every article covering this subject, but their beloved Boleyn Ground is now almost demolished. Parts of the west and south stands can still be seen on site, but within weeks the plot should be cleared for new development.

Once ground is broken, 18 new buildings will rise from it, the tallest measuring 13 floors. Altogether Barratt Homes will create 842 apartments here, though getting a bed within the spiritual home won’t be cheap.

Upton Gardens (in fairness, hardly any gardens planned) will have the most affordable single-room apartment priced at £350,000 (or $430,000). This may be a fortnight’s work for a West Ham player, but not for the average supporter.

One more bad news is that Barrat Homes decided not to include a symbolic representation of the field’s halfway line and centre circle, which were to be landscaped into the residential complex’s plaza along last year’s announcements.
