Netherlands: VVV Venlo are doing very well on the field, but financially it’s quite the opposite. The club have to do something about their stadium: redevelop or abandon.

After the relegation of 2013 VVV Venlo have been struggling to get back to Eredivisie. The club is finally doing much better now, especially in recent months. 5 victories in 5 games resulted in a strong 2nd place in Eerste Divisie with hope for promotion.

Unfortunately, club finances haven’t been as good recently. Later this month the city council will decide upon lending VVV €250,000 in order to keep them afloat. Then a new business model is to be created by Hypercube, considered experts in the field.

VVV Venlo have to submit a business plan to KNVB by mid-May and according to Hypercube the only sensible option is dropping the existing stadium, De Koel. It should either be redeveloped or left for a completely new location for the club to be viable in the long term.
