Bristol City supporters will be in for a major change of view as they return to Ashton Gate in the 2015/16 season. Demolition of the main grandstand began on Tuesday and by opening game it should already be gone.

The 60-year-old stand makes way for the most spectacular element of Ashton Gate redevelopment, the double-tiered main grandstand. With 11,000 seats it will outgrow all remaining sections of the stadium and constitute some 40% of overall stadium capacity. The new stand should be ready next year.

Currently the first and second phases of stadium revamp are ongoing simultaneously. First phase sees a new southern grandstand almost complete, expected to be opened for the new season. Second phase will see existing east stand renovated thoroughly and receive expanded facilities.

The entire stadium revamp project will be delivered in 2016. Expected price of the contract with Barr Construction is said to be £45 million ($72m / €63m).
