England: Contractor selected for the York Community Stadium Another significant sports project in England proceeds as York City is finally getting their desired new home. Completion is expected already next year.

ISG has been appointed preferred bidder for the £41m York Community Stadium and Leisure Complex scheme. The contractor will build a new 8,000-seat home stadium for York’s football and rugby teams with hospitality and conferencing facilities for the developer consortium led by Greenwich Leisure Limited.

It will deliver a new 25 m six-lane swimming pool with separate teaching and fun pools, a 100-station gym with studios and an extreme adventure sports zone, and a multi-use sports hall for netball, basketball and badminton, with space for up to 250 spectators.

ISG will also build three external floodlit sports pitches, provide car parking and extend the nearby Monks Cross Park & Ride facility.

Work is expected to begin on site in summer 2015, with completion scheduled for autumn 2016.
