Manchester: Broadhurst Park opening pushed back Not in September, but in October 2014 will the new FC United stadium be opened. Works are delayed slightly because of... dry weather.

Manchester is one of the most rainy places in England, but not this year. The summer is drier than in most of the past decade, which made dampening the sand for future field more difficult. Operations need more time now.

Additional trouble comes from a stand being removed from Northwich Victoria’s former Drill Field. The structure, planned to be reused at the new stadium, also contributed to the 4-week delay. Now instead of September, the opening is planned for October of this year.

The project at Broadhurst Park also proved more expensive than previously indicated. Instead of roughly £5.5 million, it’s now priced at £6 million. Still, the club argues everything is under control and no major setbacks will be felt by the fans, apart from waiting a couple games more to use the new 5,000-capacity ground.
