As we informed last month, Union Berlin’s stadium has just turned into the world’s largest living room. With vintage wallpaper covering the east stand and 700’ TV it was created to hold 780 sofas and yesterday’s World Cup opening saw over 700 sofa-spots occupied.

The idea by local Compact Team event group is based on people willing to watch football together, especially fans of Union, known for having a lively community. Everyone may reserve a spot and bring their sofa to watch games at the stadium’s pitch. For those without own furniture also the main and north stands were opened.

This first of its kind event will last until the very end of the World Cup in July. Between games sofas may be left inside the stadium, organizers provided plastic covers for all participants.
