Gloucester City FC's ground at Meadow Park was submerged during flooding in 2007 and has been shut ever since. Last year councillors asked the club to provide details of how the new designs would ensure it was not flooded again.

The club is now able to proceed towards submission of a planning application to Gloucester City Council. Chairman Nigel Hughes said it was "tremendous news" as the whole process had been "a complex matter".

"It will give everyone associated with the club a huge boost and will mean we can go into 2014 positively," he said.

The club will now seek to liaise with council officers to determine the timescale moving forward. Since 2007 Gloucester City have played home games at the grounds of Forest Green Rovers, Cirencester Town and Cheltenham Town.
