A true catastrophe unfolded earlier today in Sao Paulo, where two construction workers were killed (initial info from authorities named three victims). Mobile crane able to carry up to 1,500 tons was raising the very last main segment of the steel roof.

The giant truss weighing over 100 tons was up high, when it struck the stadium's structure, caused the crane to lose stability and collapse. Along with the crane came the steel frame, destroying parts of the east stand.

The tragedy is certain to further delay works at Arena Corinthians, however main parts of the stadium remain intact. FIFA expressed sadness and shared condolences, avoiding any other comments at this stage and not making any decision regarding the opening game of 2014 World Cup, scheduled to be played here in Sao Paulo.
