Northampton Borough Council agreed to lend Northampton Town FC £12 million for Sixfields Stadium redevelopment. A new east stand is to be built with the fans, followed by hotel and conference centre.

The leisure facilities are hoped to bring financial stability to the club and make it independent from any individual investors or owners in the long term. Planning application is to be submitted in autumn.

At the same time speculation arose over potential groundshare with Coventry City, who are searching for a temporary venue until they build their own stadium. City would spend 3 seasons in Northampton before moving to their new home. The club sees no chance of returning to Ricoh Arena.
