After unexpectedly long wait it finally came – governmental approval for the replacement of Bristol Memorial Stadium with a Sainsbury's supermarket. This enables the deal which will bring a 21,700-seater to Bristol.
The secretary of state's decision regarding Bristol Rovers' deal with Sainsbury's was expected in mid-February and was seen as formality. But when its announcement got delayed once, then twice, some anxiety could be felt.
Finally, a week longer than the second deadline said, secretary of state gave his ruling and agreed for the replacement of Bristol Memorial Stadium with a Sainsbury's supermarket.
This move will provide necessary funding to launch a bigger project, the 60-million new stadium at University of West England campus.
