England: Oldham Athletic planning a new North stand Planning application has been filed last week, giving Latics’ fans new hope for fully enclosed stadium. Since 2008 their Boundary Park hasn’t got any stand to the north and plan to change that in mid-2014.

Ever since the old terrace got closed in 2008, Boundary Park has only three stands to accommodate fans, leaving capacity at just over 10,000 people. It’s clear the ground needs investment and Oldham Athletic have already presented some plans to change things round.

But so far nothing happened. Or until last week, that is. Athletic filed for planning permission to get a new north stand, keeping in mind that Oldham Council promised to support such a project back in 2011.

The new stand is the first phase of development planned for Boundary Park and includes spectator seating for just under 2,500 fans, a new supporters bar, a 500-seat conference facility, offices and commercial suite, car park, health and fitness suite and a coffee shop.

Oldham Athletic AFC’s Chairman, Simon Corney, said: “We’re delighted to have reached this stage in our plans to regenerate the current stadium at our home at Boundary Park and – subject to approval – we are looking forward to working with the Council on the exciting plans we have put together.
