Hungary: Contractor announced for new Debrecen stadium Consortium named simply “Hajrá, Debrecen!” (Go, Debrecen!) won the tender for new municipal stadium, one of Hungary’s largest football projects in decades. If no appeals are filed, the arena should be built for almost 10% less than expected.

Estimations by future stadium operator said the venue might cost in excess of 12.5 billion HUF  (€43 million, $57 million), but a local consortium that won construction tender gave a significantly better offer, at 11.5 billion HUF (€39 million, $52 million). There were three other bidders.

Consortium called “Hajrá, Debrecen!” consists of Hunép Zrt. and Épker Service Zrt. If the tender receives no appeals by January 26, contract should be signed by the end of January and construction may begin within the next few weeks.

If everything goes as planned, construction should end before summer 2014 as contractors will have exactly 15 months to erect the 20,020-seat stadium.
