Ethiopia’s plans surely sound impressive with the country being recognized mostly for its poverty problems in past decades. But the latest program of sports infrastructure redevelopment is to make Ethiopia a solid partner for CAF and FIFA for large events.

New national sports centre, design of which has been released in mid-2012, will have a 60,000-seat national stadium and a secondary venue next to it. Speaking to members of the parliament PM Hailemariam Desalegn assured that work on this project is expected to start just as planned, in 2014.

That’s far from everything, though, with four cities (Bahir Dar, Mekelle, Hawassa and Lekemte) already seeing works on their stadia. Also, even five more stadiums are to be built in various districts of Addis Ababa, apart from the national one.
