England: Major athletic stadium to be closed? It was just recently named after London 2012 gold medalist Jessica Ennis. And yet today the stadium faces closure or even demolition, BBC reports.

English people aren't particularly keen to take up athletic disciplines, but this was supposed to change with immense success by Jessica Ennis, gold medalist at London Olympics.

Right after the success the ground received her name and increasing popularity of track and field was supposed to become part of the Olympic legacy of London 2012.

But now it seems that Don Valley Stadium, one of Britain's most important stadia with a running track, is more likely to close than draw people. Sheffield authorities are seeking savings as they need to cut expenses by £40 million. Closing Don Valley – argued to still be only one of many options – should aid the cause rather slightly by £500,000 saved per year.
