Kazan’s new 45,000-seater is Russia’s most advanced 2018 World Cup project. But works have to be carried out in extremely short time as it is also the host of 2013 Universiade.

That’s why, as workers comment, no-one is concerned about their safety, only about meeting deadlines. Could this be the reason for yesterday’s accident? It’s too early for conclusions as the case needs to be examined. Disclosed facts are few so far – we only know that a worker, aged 25, was killed as his crane collapsed and fell 35 meters down.

Just as the cause, this tragedy’s influence on stadium construction is yet to be revealed. One thing is certain, though. There is no chance for finishing works this year, as the schedule indicated. Furthermore, it’s entirely possible that the venue will only be ready several weeks ahead of the July’s tournament. Below you can see most recent photos released by Universiade organizing committee, dating back to mid-September.

Unfortunately this isn’t the only accident in Russia recently. In early October another worker was killed after having fallen from the rising structure of Spartak Stadium in Moscow, another 2018 WC venue.
