Portugal: Leiria to sell temporary stand from Euro 2004 Last year in September bailiff took control over Leiria’s municipal stadium when local authorities were attempting to sell it. One part was not affected though – temporary stand used during Euro 2004, lent to nearby Olha. Now this stand will be put up for auction.

Estádio Dr. Magalhaes Pessoa was due to be sold by Leiria municipality in September last year, but Just several days before action the Benue has been taken over for debts of the operator. Municipal company administrating the ground was at that point €4m into the red and unable to pay.

One stand wasn’t affected, though – 1,800 temporary seats that used to stand behind one goal during Euro 2004 and were since then lent to nearby town of Olha. However contract with Olhanense club ended recently and so the mobile stand is up for auction. Starting price has been set at €54,000.

Unfortunately, not only the temporary stand lost its tenant. The Leiria stadium was lately abandoned by local side Uniao. With average attendances of just over 2,100 (and falling) the 23,000 stadium was a giant load for the club.
