Aşgabat Stadiony – stadium description
In 2009 works began in a remote area in the west of Ashgabat, on farm-use hills. 38 hectares of land were levelled in order to accommodate the Turkmen capital's largest sports and leisure center.
Carried out by renowned Turkish company Polimeks, the main stadium has an unusual form. While it contains an 8-lane running truck, the stadium has stands in rectangular layout, which means that the front row is long 40-meters away from the field behind each goal and some 15-16 meters along the sides. Due to the stadium's high standard it hosted a long list of international games of both clubs and the national team.
Beneath the stands is a truly impressive training and leisure infrastructure, including 17 training halls for 10 different sports disciplines, as well as 2 restaurants, internet cafes and a large children's park for 500 people.
Named after the capital itself, the stadium wasn't built alone. To the contrary, it's joinded by 1,252 parking spaces in the east, four secondary stadia in the west and then by a 2,000-bed hotel and iconic wedding palace, one of Turkmenistan's largest event venues.
