Thuwunna YTC Stadium – stadium description
The main stadium of Yangon has for years been used for numerous important events due to its size, location in (former) capital and decent standard. Built in 1985 with one covered grandstand and three lower terraces enveloping the field and track. It’s been the common home for Myanmar’s national team games.
In 2011 its grand renovation began. It saw the main west stand renovated thoroughly, while all remaining stands were expanded to match its height. Along official declarations it’s now able to hold 50,000 people, first time ever as an all-seater. After these works the stadium retained its prime meaning for Myanmar’s sports, also being the largest venue.
Interestingly, as part of the works a huge fence was added, obstructing the view of nearly all spectators along the sides.
