Al Salam Stadium – stadium description
The stadium is located in Al Salam City (“City of Peace”), a remote northeastern suburb of the Cairo metropolitan area. Formerly there was only a modest facility with a running track and an undersized grandstand to the west, but it was significantly expanded prior to the 2009 U-20 World Cup.
During the aforementioned 2009 World Youth Championships, six group matches and one Round of 16 game were played at the stadium. 10 years later, the stadium was also one of the venues for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations: it hosted six group matches, one Round of 16 game, a quarterfinal, and a third place match.
The stadium can accommodate 25,000 spectators, and it hosts the El Entag El Harby club for its matches.
The facility was also the subject of interest from Egypt's largest football club, Al-Ahly. In mid-2020, the club moved into Al Salam Stadium, which was to become the team's new home, at least until a new stadium was built. The stadium was then given the commercial name Al Ahly WE Al Salam Stadium. In early 2023, however, Al-Ahly returned to the monumental Cairo International Stadium.
