Government officials believe that hosting the Games could help modernise existing sports venues, regenerate public spaces and boost the attractiveness of cities and towns across Northern England. The project is also expected to strengthen the UK's international profile and attract further investment and tourism. Although the prospect of Great Britain hosting another Olympic Games remains a long way off, English fans are already focused on a major sporting event much closer on the horizon. Benefits for cities and communities

The proposed bid forms part of the government's Northern Growth Corridor initiative, which is designed to stimulate economic development across Northern England. Officials believe preparations for the Games could lead to the construction of new homes, the creation of jobs, increased business activity and improvements to urban environments. Cities such as Leeds are expected to play a key role, although the benefits would extend well beyond a single location.

The assessment will be carried out through collaboration between the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, the Office for Investment, HM Treasury and the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government. Leading sporting organisations, including the Premier League, the English Football League and the Women's Super League, are also expected to contribute to the project.

Potential host locations being considered for future Olympic-related investment include Greater Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle, Leeds, Liverpool and London. Each of these cities already possesses significant sporting infrastructure or experience in staging major international events, factors that could strengthen any future bid.
