Strategic partnership and top standards

The mayor of the provincial capital, Jesús Julio Carnero, and the club’s co-chairman, Gabriel Solares, have both stressed that this is a strategic project that will enable the long-term improvement of the city’s infrastructure. The main goal of the planned overhaul is to adapt Estadio José Zorrilla to strict requirements and secure UEFA Category 4 status, the highest class under the European governing body’s official regulations.

The project assumes that once the works are completed, the stadium will be open 365 days a year, attracting a wide range of cultural, social and business events. The plans also include the future development of the south stand, which is to be carried out and financed directly by the city.

Revolution in accessibility and spectator comfort

The stadium’s managers openly admit that “one of the greatest obstacles to the proper functioning of the stadium in its current use is accessibility”. To effectively address this issue, two modern vertical circulation systems will be added to the northern and western façades.

The implementation of these solutions will significantly improve accessibility, especially for people with reduced mobility, and will also streamline spectator flow at entry points, movement inside the venue and evacuation. The modernization will also bring major changes to the internal layout, with renovated open hospitality areas on the third tier of the stands, new VIP boxes, and fully reorganized technical zones for players and staff. Entrance gates and food service points will also be upgraded.

New face for Anexos complex

An important part of the multi-million-euro budget is the complete transformation of the auxiliary buildings that form part of the adjacent Anexos complex. A spacious 1,000-square-metre building is currently under construction there, dedicated exclusively to the first team, the Blanquivioletas.

It will include technologically advanced physiotherapy and nutrition rooms, a modern gym, and expanded medical facilities. The investment also looks to the club’s future, as new office space will be created for younger age groups, providing better conditions and tools for the development of talent from the local academy.
