Instead of a quick capacity boost, the club will now follow a phased approach, pushing back the full impact of the project.

Changes to the Vitality Stadium construction timeline

AFC Bournemouth has announced adjustments to the Vitality Stadium expansion schedule after the local council postponed a planning committee meeting. The decision was initially expected on May 11, but has now been pushed to the end of the month, forcing the club to revise its investment timeline.

The most immediate consequence is that the current South Stand will remain in place for another season. The original plan was to begin work on its lower tier after the 2025/26 campaign, but the club has now opted for a different sequence. The upper tier of the new stand will be built first, behind the existing structure, during the 2026/27 season. Work on the lower section will follow at a later stage.

The changes also affect the scale of the capacity increase. Instead of the initially planned 1,500 additional seats, the first phase will deliver around 800, mainly through filling in the north-west and south-east corners. The remaining expansion elements are now expected to be completed only after the start of the 2026/27 season.

Changes to season ticket sales for next season

The club also confirmed that, due to the limited number of new seats, it will not be able to offer additional season tickets for the 2026/27 season to its most loyal supporters. Match ticket sales will continue under the current system, with fans holding the highest loyalty points given priority once capacity increases.

What will the next phase of works at Vitality Stadium include?

In the short term, Bournemouth will focus on preparatory works that have already received approval. These include new broadcast facilities, infrastructure upgrades, additional fencing, changes to entrance layouts, and improvements to pedestrian and cycling routes. Plans also include expanding hospitality areas, both in the main stand and on the east side.

Despite the delays, the club insists it remains fully committed to the project and will continue working with authorities and partners to see it through. While the changes may frustrate some supporters, the stadium expansion remains a central part of Bournemouth’s long-term development and reflects the club’s growing ambitions, including pushing towards European competition places.
