UD Las Palmas will invest €60 million and take over co-management of the stadium

UD Las Palmas has reached an agreement with the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, under which the club will invest €60 million in the modernization of Estadio Gran Canaria. In return, it will receive a share in the management of the facility, which will remain publicly owned but will operate under a co-management model.

The agreement ends months of tensions between the two sides, which intensified at the end of 2025. At that time, the club’s authorities openly signaled the possibility of leaving the stadium if they did not gain influence over its management. The new model is intended to ensure a compromise – the club will gain access to new sources of revenue, while public institutions will retain control over the facility.

The agreement also provides for long-term cooperation – the club is to manage the stadium for many years, and part of the project will also include the possibility of using commercial spaces that will be created as part of the redevelopment.

Modernization for the 2030 World Cup and rising investment cost

The renovation of Estadio Gran Canaria is part of the preparations for the 2030 World Cup and includes a wide range of modernization works. The project assumes, among others, the reconstruction of the stands, improvement of media and hospitality infrastructure, and adaptation of the stadium to host events of global scale.

Originally, the cost of the investment was estimated at around €100–114 million, however during the preparation process the budget increased to around €170 million. This results, among others, from the need to strengthen the structure and changes in the architectural design. The financial contribution of UD Las Palmas is to cover part of this increase, limiting the additional burden on public funds.

According to current assumptions, the main construction works are to begin at the end of 2026, after prior tender procedures are carried out. The entire investment is intended not only to prepare the stadium for the 2030 World Cup, but also to increase its functionality and commercial potential in the long term.
