The new San Siro is entering a crucial phase, but before construction can begin, the project must pass through a complex administrative and environmental process. Authorities and clubs are examining every detail of the investment. Is this the start of a real path towards a new stadium?

Full environmental assessment and urban plan for the new San Siro
The Vas assessment (strategic environmental impact assessment) is a key element of the process, as it allows the determination of the urban and environmental consequences of a large-scale investment. Councilors, including Enrico Fedrighini, emphasize that the project cannot rely solely on visualizations – detailed analyses of traffic flow, noise emissions, the impact of heavy machinery transport, and the reconstruction of the Patroclo tunnel are needed. This ensures that city authorities can guarantee that the construction of the new San Siro stadium will comply with environmental protection goals and the safety of residents.
The sale of GFU San Siro included both the current Meazza stadium and the adjacent land intended for the new investment. The project is planned in two stages: in the first stage, the new stadium will be built, and in the second stage, the remaining part of the Meazza facility will be revitalized, and urban functions will be developed. The entire complex will integrate sports, commercial, and public spaces, including new green areas, of which 80,000 m² will be transferred to the city.
The preliminary location of the stadium is in the immediate vicinity of the current facility. The club must refine details regarding road access, public transport, and the location of 15,000 new homes to ensure minimal impact of large events on the daily lives of residents.

Construction schedule of the new San Siro and next administrative steps
Construction work can only begin after the Vas assessment is completed and the detailed urban plan is approved. The Lombardy region and Milan authorities are to sign an agreement with Stadio San Siro S.p.A., which will ensure the smooth completion of administrative procedures. Inter Milan and AC Milan retain the right to cancel the investment if the project is not implemented according to the specified conditions.
The two-stage implementation of the investment involves first the construction of the new stadium, and then the revitalization of the remaining part of the Meazza facility, the development of commercial functions, and public spaces. Preparations for the start of construction are expected to continue until 2027, with the actual erection of the facility beginning in the second half of the same year.
