The new AS Roma stadium project is clearly gaining momentum after months of administrative stagnation. Political mobilisation in Rome is set to unlock key decisions that could determine the fate of one of Italy’s most significant sports investments ahead of Euro 2032.

Political mobilization and 15-day plan
The impulse for a radical acceleration of work came from a key majority meeting held in the Flag Room at Palazzo Senatorio. The closed-door talks were attended by faction leaders, committee chairs, and key officials, including urban planning councilor Maurizio Veloccia and the general director of the Capitol, Albino Ruberti.
This assembly was not merely a courtesy call; its direct result is the imposition of a rigorous pace of action intended to break the existing deadlock. The roadmap
established during the deliberations assumes rapid processing. The priority has become obtaining a City Council resolution within the next 15 days.
This is a fundamental step, constituting the first formal approval of the investment by the municipal executive body after a long break. Only this document will unlock the further complex bureaucratic machine and allow the files to be passed on for detailed analysis.

Road to services conference
After approval by the Capitoline Assembly, which is expected within a month, the documentation will be forwarded to the Lazio region. The services conference is scheduled for the first weeks of March, with a deadline for completion by July at the latest. During this conference, the urban planning agreement will be signed, enabling the start of preparatory work for organizing the construction site.
Mayor Gualtieri confirmed that all requirements to date have been met, and offices are verifying whether the project accounts for all urban planning and environmental indications from the institutions.

Cornerstone in 2027
According to the schedule, the laying of the first stone for the stadium construction is set to take place in March 2027. This ambitious deadline stems from the necessity to meet the timeframes associated with the Euro 2032 football championship, which will be held in Italy and Turkey. The new AS Roma venue is one of the key infrastructure projects for this tournament. The investment is also subject to national government oversight through a stadium commissioner appointed at the request of the Minister for Sport and Youth, Andrea Abodi.
The project envisions the construction of a stadium with 55,000–60,000 seats with a private investment by the Giallorossi club amounting to €1.3–1.4 billion. Green areas, parking, and fitness and recreational spaces open to residents of the Pietralata district are planned around the facility. A museum dedicated to the club's history will also be created.
Public investments include three bicycle-pedestrian connections, strengthening the transport system, and potential changes to traffic organization in the area. While archaeological surveys are ongoing at the former SDO site in Pietralata, officials are finalizing the last technical details of the project.
