England: Wrexham to introduce rail seating as part of Racecourse redevelopment Wrexham have confirmed their intention to install rail seating at the Racecourse Ground, taking another important step in the long-term redevelopment of their historic stadium. The Championship club announced that work on the new seating system will begin in February, immediately after their home league fixture against Leicester City on January 20.

Standing limited despite rail seating introduction at Wrexham

Despite the arrival of rail seating, Wrexham supporters will not initially be able to use the area as a full standing section. The club has confirmed that fans will only be permitted to stand during goal celebrations and other significant match incidents. This restriction is due to the stadium’s current licensing status, which will remain as an all-seater venue until at least the end of the 2025/26 season.

In a detailed club statement, Wrexham explained that the project has been developed in close consultation with the club’s Safety Advisory Group. This group includes representatives from the local authority, emergency services and other key stakeholders involved in matchday operations. The club stressed that all installation work and future use of the rail seating will be delivered in line with governing body regulations to ensure the highest possible standards of spectator safety.

Wrexham intend to have the new rail seating installed and ready for use in their first home match after the Leicester City fixture. That game is scheduled for February 7, when Millwall visit the Racecourse Ground. While standing will remain restricted, the club believes the new setup will allow key moments during matches to be enjoyed in a safer and more controlled way, without significantly changing the current supporter experience. While waiting for important decisions regarding sports infrastructure, fans often look for other forms of entertainment, and one of the most popular options is anonymous crypto sports betting, which offers privacy, fast transactions, and flexible options tailored to individual preferences. The introduction of rail seating is the latest chapter in a broader redevelopment of Wrexham’s stadium. The club recently secured an £18 million grant to support further upgrades to the Racecourse Ground, adding to the significant public funding already invested since the club’s takeover by Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds. Financial support from the local council began in 2020 and has since increased substantially, reflecting the importance of the stadium to the wider regeneration of the area.

At the heart of the redevelopment plans is the construction of a new Kop Stand, following the demolition of the original structure in 2023. Wrexham broke ground on the rebuilt stand in December, with the aim of completing the work by this summer. Once finished, the new Kop is expected to increase the Racecourse Ground’s total capacity to around 18,000 spectators.

Alongside the new stand, Wrexham are planning further improvements to floodlights, the pitch and overall stadium infrastructure. When all works are complete, the Racecourse Ground is expected to meet UEFA Category 4 standards, the highest classification available. This would make the stadium eligible to host major European fixtures in the future, underlining Wrexham’s ambition both on and off the pitch as their remarkable rise continues.
