England: Architects behind Wembley step into League One — Leyton Orient enters new era Leyton Orient have announced a landmark move: the world-renowned architecture firm Populous—the creators of Wembley, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and the stunning Sphere in Las Vegas—has been appointed to design the club’s new stadium. It marks a major step forward for the East London side, which aims to grow both on and off the pitch.

End of the era?

The new venue is planned as the future home for both Leyton Orient’s men’s and women’s teams. The project will include not only a stadium, but also a multi-sport complex, a public hub with retail, hospitality and leisure facilities, and community-focused open spaces. In the coming months, club officials and the Waltham Forest Council will hold consultations with supporters and residents to determine the most suitable location and overall vision for the development.

Back in October, the club began the formal planning process for redeveloping the area and identifying a potential new site. The appointment of Populous moves the project into a decisive phase and is the clearest sign yet that a new stadium is no longer just an idea, but a fully realistic undertaking. Waiting for major decisions on sports infrastructure, fans often look for alternative sources of entertainment online. For those who enjoy the thrill of online slots, platforms like Virgin Games could even partner with such venues to offer themed promotions and digital fan zones.

Populous: “Creating a new symbol of East London”

Leyton Orient have played at Brisbane Road—capacity around 9,000—since 1937. And while the club currently sit mid-table in League One, Orient have long-term ambitions to secure promotion and establish themselves in the Championship, a division they have not competed in since 1982. The new stadium is seen as central to both sporting and commercial progress.

This is a huge milestone and a clear statement of ambition. We are building a world-class sports campus that honours Leyton Orient’s heritage while creating a modern, accessible home for our fans and community—today and for generations to come.

Populous will now begin the feasibility and master-planning phase, working closely with fans, residents, planning authorities and other stakeholders. The firm is a global leader in sports and entertainment architecture, with more than 3,500 projects worldwide, and a portfolio that includes some of the most iconic venues—from Strasbourg’s redeveloped stadium to major Premier League arenas and flagship U.S. projects.

Now, their expertise will be used to shape a new, world-class home for Leyton Orient—and potentially a new landmark for East London.
