A reliable host
This decision was made by the RFEF Board of Directors during a meeting in Seville, taking advantage of the fact that the very next day the same stadium would host Spain’s final World Cup 2026 qualifier — against Turkey — for the tournament in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
The matter appeared as the second item on the agenda, listed literally as: procedure for awarding the hosting rights for the Final of the Championship of Spain – His Majesty the King’s Cup. Report by the Evaluation Committee and decisions to be taken, if applicable.
Based on the documents presented, the Board members concluded that the Estadio de La Cartuja should continue to host the most important match in Spanish football, which has been played there uninterruptedly since 2020, when the trophy was lifted by Real Sociedad. In the following years, the Cup was won by: Barcelona (2021), Betis (2022), Real Madrid (2023), Athletic Club (2024) and again Barcelona (2025).
During the tender process, opened on 24 September, the RFEF had also considered the Metropolitano in Madrid and the Mestalla in Valencia. However, La Cartuja has also been the venue for numerous official matches of the Spanish national teams — both men’s and women’s. Moreover, during Euro 2020 the stadium took over the hosting duties from San Mamés and staged as many as four matches.
