Rangers FC has begun an extensive feasibility study that will determine the direction of a future redevelopment of Ibrox Stadium and the wider club campus. The analysis will assess the current layout and condition of the stadium infrastructure, the need for increased capacity and possible scenarios for stand expansion and redevelopment of the surrounding areas.

Fans will help shape the direction of the project
The club also aims to evaluate how to make more effective use of adjacent properties such as Edmiston House, the G51 site and current office spaces, particularly on matchdays. A major focus will be improving the fan experience – from food and beverage zones and meeting areas to modern service spaces – while preserving and highlighting the heritage of Rangers.
Supporters will be involved from the very start. Consultations will include focus groups, interviews and a large-scale survey set to launch later this year. The Fan Advisory Board, Rangers Supporters Association, the Disability Matters group, Copland Collective and Club 1872 have all been invited to take part. The collected feedback will form the foundation of future recommendations and guide both immediate improvements and long-term infrastructure decisions. The club promises regular updates as the process develops.

More seats and an improved matchday experience
Ibrox, one of Scotland’s most iconic football venues, has undergone phased renovations in recent decades, but discussions about a major redevelopment have been ongoing for years. Recently, the Copland Stand was refreshed as part of the accessibility improvement programme for disabled supporters, and with the entry of US investors, the conversation around boosting stadium capacity has resurfaced.
According to recent internal assessments, the club has considered adding around 4,000 seats by lowering the pitch level. Any potential project will require further consultations with fans, local authorities and transport bodies before entering formal planning procedures. Acting CEO Fraser Thornton emphasises that this is a crucial moment in shaping the future of Ibrox: the project must be ambitious and sustainable, strengthen the role of Rangers within the Govan community and the wider Glasgow area, and at the same time identify actions that can immediately enhance the matchday experience for supporters.
