Italy: Positive talks in Nyon. Florence hopes for funding to renovate the Franchi Florence continues its efforts to secure the financing needed to complete the renovation of the Artemio Franchi Stadium. Positive atmosphere as the key to success?

Local authorities aim to maintain Florence’s candidacy as one of Italy’s host cities for the UEFA Euro 2032 tournament, which the country will co-organise with Turkey. Participation in the event would allow access to European and additional infrastructural funds, essential for fully realising the ambitious renovation plan. Representatives of ACF Fiorentina and architects from the Arup studio — responsible for the redesign — were also present. According to official statements, the meeting took place in a positive atmosphere and marked the first step in a broader dialogue that will continue in the coming months.

UEFA reviewed the full renovation plan for the Franchi, with particular focus on requirements applicable during tournaments of this level. However, the discussion went beyond sporting aspects. Special attention was given to EVA (Economic Value Added) criteria, which assess the real economic value of the investment, as well as to urban mobility issues — including the role of tram lines and public transport in servicing major events.

Still time ahead

The meeting also covered the city’s ability to host international events and the development plan for the surrounding areas, set to become an integral part of the renovated sports complex. As city officials emphasise, talks will continue, and a key moment in the process will be the official submission of Florence’s candidacy, scheduled for July 2026.
