Newcastle United have issued an official update on the future of St James’ Park, confirming that no final decision has yet been made. During the first Fan Advisory Board meeting of the season, Chief Operating Officer Brad Miller explained that the process of analysing potential redevelopment or a new stadium build remains ongoing.

All options remain on the table
The minutes from the meeting stated: The Board continues to assess all stadium development options and has not yet reached a final decision. This remains a complex and long-term strategic consideration, with potential benefits for the Club, city and wider region. The priority is to ensure any decision is the right one - both in terms of feasibility and long-term impact.
Miller added that Newcastle are determined to run a thorough and transparent process aimed at securing the club’s long-term competitiveness, particularly in terms of revenue and Premier League financial regulations (PSR).
After the club’s 2021 takeover, expansion of St James’ Park was initially seen as the preferred option. However, over time, the board began to explore the idea of building a brand-new stadium, possibly to the north of the current site. One proposed location, Leazes Park, met strong opposition — more than 28,000 people signed a petition against it.
Slow progress despite planning
Despite carrying out feasibility studies and holding talks with Newcastle City Council, there has been no tangible progress so far. The club insists it will not rush such a major decision and that due diligence is essential. Still, with ticket demand at record levels and ongoing frustration over the sales and resale system, pressure from fans for a clear plan is only increasing.
