Poland: Ruch Chorzów stadium demolished – fans to decide on new design The demolition of Ruch’s stadium on Cicha Street 6 is underway, and supporters of the Blues hope that a modern football arena will soon rise in its place. However, the exact timeline of the project’s completion remains uncertain.

Demolition and preserving memorabilia

The first stage of the demolition, covering the main stand and part of the concrete terraces, began in early August and is expected to be completed by October. Selected elements of the stadium will be transferred to the Chorzów Metallurgy Museum as well as the planned Ruch Chorzów Museum at the new venue.

Among them are riveted steel fragments inscribed with Królewska Huta, grilles with the letter R and the word Ruch, and a gate from the tunnel leading onto the pitch. The iconic “Omega” clock will also be moved to the club museum, while another clock will go to the Metallurgy Museum. Fans will also have the chance to keep a piece of Cicha for themselves – a number of seats have been put on sale as part of the We Build the Stadium Together campaign, priced at 192 PLN each.

Fans trust their beloved club to rebuild a modern stadium, a project that unites the whole community and symbolizes their future. Yet in everyday life, everyone also has personal projects that matter just as much. What will the new stadium look like?

The construction of Ruch Chorzów’s new stadium is a complex process that will take several years. According to preliminary plans, work is set to begin in 2026. Initially, two stands will be built, accommodating between 12,000 and 15,000 fans. Once the entire investment is completed, the stadium’s capacity is expected to reach around 22,000 seats. The club will not be able to return to Cicha in less than three years.

The project is planned for 2025–2040, with an estimated total cost of 408 million PLN. A portion of the funds has already been secured in the 2025 budget, with further allocations planned: 32.7 million PLN in 2026, 31.9 million PLN in 2027, 31.2 million PLN in 2028, 24 million PLN in 2029, and decreasing amounts from 23.2 million to 15.9 million PLN between 2030 and 2040.

Fans have their say

Ruch Chorzów has launched a survey for members of the Wielki Ruch Association, allowing supporters to vote on the appearance of the new stadium. Two options are on the table: a classic, more symmetrical design with the ultras’ section located in a side stand, or the blue wall variant, with the ultras behind the goal on the long stand.
