Borussia Mönchengladbach has been carrying out visible work on its stadium for several months. Fans have noticed scaffolding on the west stand and are asking what is happening to the venue. The club explains that this is part of a series of upgrades.

Scaffolding on the west stand
Walking around Borussia-Park, it is hard not to notice the metal structures attached to the west stand. The reason is simple – the stadium is already 21 years old and requires maintenance. Borussia announced on its website that the work concerns anti-corrosion protection of steel elements, ordered as part of the facility’s regular technical inspection.
Not all elements, however, require full scaffolding. At the other stands, specially trained climbers are used. Due to weather conditions, work is only carried out between April and October. The project is scheduled for completion in September 2026.

Stadium is also changing inside
The scaffolding is only part of a larger modernization plan. Borussia has already replaced the lighting system with modern, energy-efficient LEDs. This upgrade covered both the main stadium and seven of the ten training pitches.
At the same time, changes have been introduced at the entrances. Turnstiles on the north and west stands have been replaced with new ones, allowing for faster and smoother access to the stadium. The next phase of modernization is scheduled for the summer of 2026, when similar work will be carried out in the east and south sectors.

New fan shop and upgraded catering areas
Fans visiting the northeast corner of the stadium will notice another investment. The former ticket office in the Fansteinraute zone is being converted into a fan shop. The decision to change its function comes from the growing importance of digital sales and the declining role of traditional ticket distribution on matchdays. The new point of sale will be accessible both from the outside and directly from inside the stadium.
Meanwhile, in the southern area of the stadium, the number of food kiosks is being increased. Until now there were six; after modernization there will be ten. The club announced that fans will see the first results during the match against Werder Bremen on September 14.
It is also worth mentioning that the stadium has recently gained a new attraction – a bronze Foal
statue unveiled in August on the occasion of the club’s 125th anniversary. It has quickly become a popular photo spot for supporters, although to take a picture without scaffolding in the background, you now have to find the right angle. Modernization works in Mönchengladbach will continue at least until 2026.
