UEFA has announced that Europe’s two biggest club football events in 2027 will be held in Madrid and Warsaw. The men’s Champions League final will take place at the Estadio Metropolitano in the Spanish capital, while the women’s final will be played at Warsaw’s National Stadium.

Return after 8 years
The decision was taken at a UEFA Executive Committee meeting in Tirana. Madrid’s selection comes as no surprise – the Estadio Metropolitano, home of Atlético Madrid, is one of Europe’s most modern venues and has already hosted major events, including the 2019 Champions League final.
Before moving to their current ground, Atlético had never hosted a Champions League final; now they will have as many as Camp Nou – two, although the Barcelona stadium’s came in the 20th century (1989 and 1999). Santiago Bernabéu has staged four (1957, 1969, 1980 and 2010) but by 2027 seventeen years will have passed since the last. The Wembley remains unmatched with five finals (1963, 1968, 1971, 1978 and 1992), while the new Wembley already has three (2011, 2013 and 2024).
Atlético earned widespread praise for the flawless organisation of the 2019 final, just two years after moving from Vicente Calderón, a five-star stadium that never hosted a Champions League decider. That event generated around €60 million for the city and the club received dozens of congratulatory messages.

Sports City to add more prestige
Eight years on, finalists will find an even more impressive setting. Atlético’s stadium is to be surrounded by Ciudad del Deporte
– Sports City – a 265,000 m² complex for recreation and sport. It will feature a wave pool – Europe’s largest artificial beach – plus athletics tracks, padel courts, a shopping centre, a 20,000-seat concert arena and the rojiblancos
new training base. This mega-project, a legacy of Miguel Ángel Gil, will give UEFA’s showcase event an even grander stage.

Warsaw makes its debut
Warsaw will for the first time host the women’s Champions League final. The National Stadium has long ranked among Europe’s top football arenas and has hosted many international events – including Euro 2012, the 2015 Europa League final and the 2024 UEFA Super Cup. Poland’s bid was backed by the Polish FA and beat out competition from Spotify Camp Nou, Principality Stadium and St. Jakob-Park.
