The hit HBO series Hard Knocks has returned with a new season, this time offering a behind-the-scenes look at the Buffalo Bills’ preparations for the 2025 NFL season. In the premiere episode, viewers were taken not only inside the locker room and onto the practice field but also got a first glimpse of the New Highmark Stadium under construction in Orchard Park — built using exceptionally advanced engineering.

A stadium that beat the wind
During the episode, Bills quarterback Josh Allen toured the under-construction stadium located just next to the current Highmark Stadium. The New Highmark Stadium will feature a canopy that protects fans from extreme weather conditions while still allowing snow and rain to influence gameplay — a characteristic that has long defined Buffalo’s football identity. One of the most intriguing engineering feats is the design that eliminates wind turbulence at field level — a problem that has challenged kickers and quarterbacks in Buffalo for decades.
As team owner Terry Pegula explained, the stadium is protected from the southwest, the direction from which wind most commonly blows. Special perforations were added to prevent the wind from swirling over the top and being sucked into the bowl. We got rid of it — we solved it scientifically
, Pegula said. In practice, even if the wind howls outside the stadium, players won’t feel it on the field. That’s a massive improvement for players who’ve had to deal with unpredictable gusts for years.
State-of-the-art sports facilities
Josh Allen also got a sneak peek at the plans for a new locker room and training complex, set to open after the 2025 season. The new facilities will include jacuzzis, cryotherapy chambers, hydrotherapy, a sauna, and a steam room — everything a modern NFL team requires. The Bills will play one more season at their current stadium before officially moving across the street to their futuristic new home. Both players and fans eagerly await the opening of this innovative stadium.
